Andrew Kovac, who taught in the International Design Studio for the spring semester of 2021, visited Japan for a workshop and lecture. Kovac’s studio explored the boundaries between architecture and art under the theme of “Very Big Art,” and five master’s students worked on their projects.<\/p>\n

Due to immigration restrictions, the studio was conducted entirely remotely. However, in conjunction with Andrew Kovac’s visit to Japan, the Kovac Studio’s students presented their projects, and Kovac gave a lecture.<\/p>\n

Andrew Kovac worked with students at SEKISUI HOUSE – KUMA LAB during his visit to Japan to reassemble “Collective Housing II (Homage to Sir John Soane).” This work was the “Chicago Model<\/a>” exhibited at the Chicago Biennial in 2017 and was shipped to Japan for storage in 2018 after the Biennial exhibition. This time, it was restored to its original form as it was exhibited in Chicago and reassembled as an apartment complex, rereading the symbolism and scale of the interior spaces of Sir John Soane’s own house and the exhibits and collections within it.<\/p>\n

Now moved to Shodoshima House and is currently on display at the Setouchi International Art Festival 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n
